NEW WORLD RULES

Goal after the whistle

Old rule - Ball must be completely through the ring before the whistle is blown to signal time.

New rule - Ball must have been released by the GS or GA before the whistle is blown to signal time

Throw ins

Old rule - All players used to have to be on court before a throw in could occur.

New rule - Players taking a throw in no longer have to wait for all players to be on court before taking the throw in.

Remember

* Your foot cannot be on the line while taking a throw in

* Your foot must be within 15cm of the line when taking a throw in

Centre Pass Checks

New Rule - An on court player may now appeal to the umpires to check which team’s centre pass it is if they believe the centre pass is being signalled by the umpires incorrectly. The appeal must happen before the centre pass is taken.

Toss up Removal

New Rule - If a simultaneous infringement occurs possession is awarded to the team that last had the ball where the ball is when play is stopped. Any player on the team receiving possession may take the pass.

It is very rare an infringement is simultaneous, therefore it is expected this will happen as much as toss ups have happened.

Short Pass

New Rule -

When a player passes the ball there must be sufficient space on the court for an opposing player to be able to deflect or intercept the ball as it moves from the hands of the passer to those of the receiver.

Possession - Removal of Toss Up

New Rule -

The Toss Up has been removed. If a simultaneous infringement occurs, the team who last had possession of the ball will be awarded possession where the simultaneous infringement occurred.

Example: red team throws the ball and is caught by Red GS and Green GK at the same time. Red team will be awarded possession (shot or pass) where the GS and GK caught it together.
